LAJNA

Those who think among the people will keep asking questions. The wise will never ignore such questions.  Scholars who are intelligent, especially those who have insight in the field of Islamic propagation, give clear answers with good intention to those who ask with the objective of learning. But if the question is asked with the intention to ridicule and engage in altercation, such questioners may be ignored. "And turn away from the ignorant." That is what the Qur'an also advises. But it is the duty of the Muslim scholars to clarify the doubts of people who truly seek salvation in the Hereafter. It is a great crime not to pass on a knowledge you know to the person asking for it. The Prophet (SA) said that if a scholar conceals his knowledge, he will be severely punished in the Hereafter.

If there is a difference of opinion in religious affairs, the Holy Quran and the hadees should be accepted as the basis for resolving the same.

Allah says: “O you who believe, you shall obey Allah, Obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.  And if you differ among yourselves on anything, then return it to Allah and His Messenger.  If you believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best and the best resolution”(4:59).

Contemplating on one thing at this point is very important. Above verse commands us first to, "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you", and then, "If there is any difference of opinion among you, return to Allah and his Messenger to settle it." It does not say return to "Ulul Amr (those in authority)". It means, refer back to Qur'an and the Sunnah alone to resolve the disputes. We should strive to understand, accept and practice religious affairs as the way the righteous ancestors understood, accepted and practiced it on the basis of Qur'an and the Sunnah. But everyone may not be able to adopt this policy.  Only those who firmly believe in Allah and have the consciousness of the Hereafter can do so. This is made clear by the statement in the above verse of Qur'an, "If you believe in Allah and the Last Day." This approach is the one that brings cogent and sterling resolution.

If we rely on the decisions we make from our own perspectives as part of any compromises made for our personal, family or organizational interests, we will never reach consensus or a good resolution. That is not a good ending. Even if you think there is some gain in it temporarily, in the end it will turn to be dreadful.

The Mujahid Movement is an ideological propagation group among the Muslim community in Kerala that came into existence about a century ago. Laity and scholars of those days alike came up with lots of questions before that movement. The answers given to all those questions were in accordance with the understanding of the righteous ancestors, exactly what the Qur'an and the Sunnah teaches on the subject. The scholars of Mujahid movement have taken this position in their debates and denunciations too. That is how the kind of change we see today in Kerala is realized. If the question "is it permissible to pray to the dead?" is asked, the answer should be "No, it is shirk (associating partners with Allah)" and it should be given with all references. The questioner may not get it right if the answer given is "it is what the Qur'an and the Sunnah says on this subject and as the righteous ancestors understood it" which is vague. It will not be clear to him whether he can pray or not to the dead!. The kind of indefinite answer mentioned above is not appropriate for the question "is it permissible to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet (SA)?", rather the answer should be unambiguous as, "No, it is not and it is a bid'a (innovation)".

Is there punishment in the grave?  If yes, is it somatic?  Many people are skeptical about it. The fidelity of punishment in the grave should be untangled on the basis of the authentic scriptures and the answer to such questions should be "Yes, it is and it can be really experienced". Only then the people will try to be more careful in their deeds, fearing Allah and his punishments. But, what is there to be understood from the answer “it is what the Qur'an and the Sunnah says on this subject and as the righteous ancestors understood it"?

As the perpetuation of a scholarly body which prevailed distinctly over a century in Kerala with its precise approaches and firm stances, Wisdom Islamic Organization introduced "Lajnathul Buhusul Islamiyah" (whose nickname is "Lajna"). This group of scholars too are espousing the same stance as that of the righteous ancestors in adopting, interpreting and practicing religious affairs.

The study camp for scholars conducted every six months in order to ensure such allegiance is Lajna's main activity. There is a special mechanism working under this group of scholars for resolving doubts and difference of opinions pertaining to the ideology and the philosophy of Islamic law.

Jamia

Thanks to the infinite grace of Allah, we mark the beginning today, in Kerala, where Islamic activities based on the Quran and the Sunnath have been carried out for more than a century, of a distinctive center for the advanced learning of religion, set up with the aim of molding a generation mastered and knowledgeable enough to respond adequately to the challenges posed by the contemporary world. We pray and believe that the center, located on ten acres adjacent to Malappuram, a city that contributes much to the history and growth of Malabar, and beginning to function from the academic year 2013-14, will develop into a knowledge hub of international standards. The Jamia Al Hind campus is being set up at Mini ooty, Malappuram, an area well known for its natural and scenic beauty. Jamia Al Hind will come into being as an environment-friendly campus, without posing any threat to the geographical particularities of the region.
